Well, to an extent, although the growth in austerity chic may have more to do with our aversion to public displays of wealth that our decreasing incomes. It’s as if the mobile phones and filofaxes of 80’s yuppydom were simply replaced in the most recent boom by Organic Yoghurt and locally sourced vegetable.
More on this at the Economist. But it looks as if the days of overpriced Organic goods are over, and there is some debate over whether, as things perk up in 2010, Organic produce will regain flavour of the month status, or will it have to reframe itself as ‘locally sourced for better value’.
