Social Collider – Revealing cross connections on Twitter

Im still not totally sure exactly how this works, or what some of the pretty lines mean… but I still like it, and once understood, it could be a damn cool tool. In short, it’s a standard Twitter trend search tool which visualises both by Tweet and the connections between the tweets. You can search by user / trend / or single term to see what and when your chosen term has been discussed, and the connections between the conversations. The search is based upon @usernames, direct @-replies, #hashtags, retweets (RT), URLs posted. The size of the spiral relates to the number of cross connections the related message/ tweet has accumalated.

As you can see in the image below, this is the map for the term ‘Adidas Originals’ over one day. The green lines represent direct conversation of the term ‘Adidas Originals’. The other coloured lines show series of unrelated tweets by a user which then connect to the ‘Adidas Originals’ trend through a singular tweet on the subject.

I’m articulating this badly. Have a go yourself at www.socialcollider.net, type in a brand or search term and see what comes out. If you can work it all out, then fantastic. If not, it at least looks pretty.

Our clever chaps here in Mindshare research/insights are busy creating something similar that will analyse influencers reach and sentiment across Twitter and Tumblr.
